Highlights of the week

Technical problems

(MPF) This morning, at the time of the week I normally reserve for Talossa Weekly, technical problems prevented me from working on the site (and took my time to fix the problems).

As such, the issue is much shorter than it should be, having only articles types previously. This doesn't do justice to the reactions to the Peace Treaty or to the totally exciting first week when Republicans have been able to post on the Kingdom's Wittenberg.

All our most sincere apologies.

Talossa Weekly now bi-national !

Talossa Weekly will now accept articles from both citizens of the Republic of Talossa AND of the Kingdom of Talossa, on either of the 2 nations. Our goal is to become the number 1 newspaper of the Greater Talossa. So, YOU can help Talossa Weekly by providing fresh content in the next 7 days at : webmaster[at]talossa.net. Just e-mail us your article !

A rare occurance: no changes in pai2 rankings !

(MPF) For the third time only , Talossa Weekly reported the same exact ranks as the previous time. The first time occured oddly in our 13th issue, with this issue being the 31th, 31 being of course the mirror image of 13.

Micro-hosting.net launched !

(MPF) Talossa Weekly is proud to announce the launch of Micro-hosting.net (visit website), the first hosting company reserved solely for Micronations and companies of the Republic of Talossa.

Featuring a great hosting package (250 MB of webspace, 10 GB of monthly bandwidth, unlimited e-mail accounts) at a very low price : 100$ US per year. Furthermore, E.S.T.O. members will get 40% off, to the unbelievably low price of 60$ US per year.

One of the main advantages to the Republic of Talossa, is that the company will be registered in the micronation, paying 15$ US of volontary "taxes" will be paid to the Republic, per client, per year. The money will  be used first to pay for the domain names of the Republic, and later possibly other projects, as the client base of the company increases.

Legally speaking, hosting and registration of the Republic domain names (such as talossa.com and talossaonline.com) has been transferred to that new company, as well as hosting and registration of the ESTO website.

Owned by Marti-Pair Furxhéir, the company doesn't plan to make a lot of profit in itself, "We will be operating barely above our costs", the CEO declared. "Our goal is to help Micronations get professionally hosted, while increasing the visibility of ESTO. For the first time, joining a micronation organization will actually benefit financially to it's members"

The CEO also hopes that other corporations will be registered in the Republic which would both pay taxes in the Republic and provide rebates to citizens of the Republic and other ESTO members.

"These taxes of course, would never be mandatory, but it is clear that with corporate financial resources, we can execute common goals without begging the citizens to contribute financially. To help encourage these corporations to donating to the Republic, for each dollar paid in volontary taxes, Micro-hosting.net will reduce the renewal fees of that corporation by a dollar(for up to 30$). Plus, the 15$ contribution will be made in the name of the corporation"

As an incentive to the citizens of the Republic, he is also offering the first year of hosting for free for corporation willing to pay a volontary tax signing up before January 1st 2006 (a 10$ fee for domain name registration will apply if one is needed).

Alternative treaty proposed by Dan Lorentz

(MPF) Dan Lorentz, of the Kingdom of Talossa, proposed on the Kingdom's Wittenberg the following treaty text for consideration :

Declaration of Friendship Among Talossans

We are all Talossans.

We of the Kingdom of Talossa and we of the Republic of Talossa are Talossans.

With this declaration, We Talossans—all of us who share Talossa's history, her tongue and an odd passion for Talossanity—announce our identity and friendship to the world.

We are all Talossans, but there are two Talossas

Our two Talossan homes—the Republic and the Kingdom—are each self-governing. They each have made their own independent realms in the world.

And now, having put aside any past animosity, with this declaration of friendship, we Talossans—each from the stronghold of our respective realms—dedicate ourselves to Talossan amity.

To symbolize and make tangible our dedication to friendship, We Talossans resolve to:

1. Jointly promote and guide the development the Talossan language;

2. Make available and accessible all Talossan historical records to all Talossan scholars;

3. Respect the privacy requests of all Talossan citizens;

4. Welcome the respectful and peaceful (and only occasionally ornery) participation of every Talossan in the public discussion groups of both Talossas.

By signing this Declaration of Friendship Among Talossans, the Kingdom of Talossa and the Republic of Talossa pledge themselves to good faith efforts to reach a more detailed and mutually acceptable understanding about how to accomplish these four resolves of understanding by January 1, 2006.

With these four resolves of friendship, We Talossans begin a new era of amity, and we express our joint hope that we shall undertake together many future projects to glorify Talossa.

While many citizens of both nations seem enthousiastic about the new proposal, none of the two prime-ministers nor of the foreign affairs minister seem moved by it, at least publicly.

Foreign Arrairs Minister Furxheir, who refused to comment for Talossa Weekly, had posted a reply in which he critized the treaty's lack of clarity and the fact is ignored many of the demandes of the Republic.

Cezembre(RoT) has adopted a provincial constitution

On Nov 30, citizens of Cezembre(RoT) voted by an overwhelming margin to establish a new provincial government, to be headed by the governor, known as the Dude. This unusual title dates back to the 18th century, as a result of a clerical error which transcribed the French "Duc" as "Dud". Cezembreans will now proceed to elect an interim Dude and to approve standing orders for the operation of the General Assembly, as prescribed by the constitution.

In the Cezembrean tradition, the debates surrounding the constitution were argumentative but good-natured, and for the most part centred on the length and complexity of the document. In the end it was decided to operate on the basis of a direct democracy, with an elected governor to act as the executive.

For the text of the new Constitution see here.
